The Bewitched Knife

A necessary item of a mage is a bewitched knife or ritual knife. These knives are necessary for sorcerers and witches to make bloody sacrifices as well as perform other work.

The ritual knife is kept separately, is not given to anyone, and is not shown to anyone. Sorcerers and witches buy their ritual knives from the best craftsmen of blacksmithing, preferring the best grades of steel. They do not negotiate on price. The handles and the sheathes of knives are made by masters of joinery from the best varieties of black wood or oak or walnut, which are further darkened by black staining. The sheath is made of dark, durable leather stitched with rough black natural threads. The handle of the witch’s knife is arranged in such a way that the witch’s hand does not come in contact with any of the metal of the knife as she wields it for her work. The blade’s handle should be provided with a small crossbar to prevent the brush from slipping off the handle when using the knife in a stabbing motion.

Sorcerers and witches engaged in witchcraft as a profession sometimes have several additional knives for various practical purposes. For example: sacrificial knifes for Gods or entities, sacrificial knives for clients to gods or entities, knives for personal magical use, and so on. Sometimes witches used disposable knives for practical purposes. A master who practices old-world witchcraft knows how many knives he or she needs and the purpose of each. Such knives are charged separately in a special way by the Unclean Force.
